Expensive HDMI cables are a scam!

If you ever spend more than £15 on an HDMI cable you have wasted your money - the above story (on Engadget) isn't just true in the states, I've seen the same 'demo' of Monster cables on Tottenham Court Road.

Here is another thing that baffles / annoys me. How can a £1000+ blu-ray player look 'better' than a PS3?

I know otherwise credible people tell me that you can infact see a difference. I call BS, as my thoughts are:

As long as the mechanism is stable and not getting read errors, surely the decompression is the same? Then its a digital stream down a HDMI cable, so no DACs to poor money into.
